Thursday Keynote Speaker Jennifer Curry, Ph.D., NCC
Bridging High School and Post-Secondary Options:
Ethical Considerations, Challenges, and Opportunities *Sponsored by Gear Up

Today’s high school students are offered more options than ever before to discover their future paths including: work-based learning, industry-based credentials, dual enrollment credit, advanced placement, career and technical education and so much more. Students also have a growing variety of post-secondary alternatives such as technical schools, community colleges, four-year universities, apprenticeships, certificate programs, and online degrees. As exciting as all of these choices are, they also come with potential ethical concerns. This session is designed to explore the changing landscape of high school career and post-secondary preparation and transition, and the evolving vulnerabilities facing professionals, students, families, and the future of education. Come prepared to discuss, puzzle, inquire, examine, and explore these trends with your colleagues!

Jennifer Curry, Ph. D., NCC, Louisiana K-12 Certified School Counselor, Professor, and the LSU College of Human Sciences and Education’s Shirley B. Barton Endowed Professor, teaches in the counselor education program at Louisiana State University. She has published over 50 peer reviewed articles and five books including Promising Practices for High School Apprenticeships published by the American School Counselor Association, P-12 Career and College Readiness Counseling (2nd ed.) published by Springer and co-authored with Amy Milsom, and African Americans’ Career and College Readiness: The Journey Unraveled, co-edited with M. Ann Shillingford-Butler and published by Lexington. Dr. Curry has served as a delegate of ASCA’s national assembly, President of the Louisiana School Counselor Association (LSCA), and President of the Association for Spiritual, Ethical and Religious Values in Counseling. When registering, if you plan to attend Wednesday (regardless of whether or not you stay for Thursday or Friday) please register either as a current WySCA member if you are, or a non-member. Wednesday's portion has a fee associated with it to help continue to bring in professional development through WySCA.

However, if you are NOT attending Wednesday and ONLY plan to attend Thursday and/or Friday, please select that option at registration. Thank you.
